Glass is known for being the safest and most natural packaging. But is it really the best option when it comes to dietary supplements?
At Sevens Nutrition, we carefully compared all materials before choosing PET, and today we explain why we prefer this material over glass , even in terms of safety.
Glass: as inert as we think?
It's true that glass is a very chemically stable material. It doesn't react with the products it contains, doesn't release substances, and doesn't alter the formula of your capsules or tablets.
However, the packaging isn't just the body of the bottle . What seals it also matters:
➡️ Metal or plastic-sealed lids may contain materials that migrate into the product, such as:
-
Bisphenol A (BPA) in old interior varnishes.
-
Phthalates in some PVC gaskets.
-
Low-quality plastic components or sealants.
Although current regulations restrict or prohibit many of these substances, there is still a risk that poorly designed or outdated packaging could contain them.
And in the past, these cases were more common than we think.
Other drawbacks of glass
In addition to possible migration from the lids, glass has other practical and environmental disadvantages:
-
Fragility : breaks easily, which can contaminate the product or pose a physical risk.
-
Weight : significantly increases the total weight of the product, which implies:
-
Higher transportation costs.
-
Larger carbon footprint.
-
-
Greater energy consumption in its production and recycling.
Glass is recyclable, yes, but its processing is more complex and energy-intensive than PET.
✅ Advantages of PET over glass
The PET (polyethylene terephthalate) we use at Sevens Nutrition offers a more balanced solution between safety, functionality and sustainability .
✔️ Does not contain BPA or phthalates.
✔️ No varnishes or interior coatings required.
✔️ It is shock resistant, lightweight and recyclable.
✔️ It has been evaluated and approved by EFSA and FDA for food use.
✔️ Its production and transportation generate fewer emissions.
🧭 So what is safer?
Both materials can be safe if used correctly and in compliance with regulations.
But the PET:
-
Avoid the risks associated with metal lids or plastic gaskets.
-
It has a simpler and more controlled composition .
-
Reduce environmental impact , something increasingly important for responsible brands and consumers.
That's why we at Sevens chose PET. Because it not only protects what's inside, but also those who consume it and the planet we live on.

What if we used metal containers instead of glass or plastic? In the next post, we explore what happens with aluminum, internal coatings, and other little-known risks.
